2022 Cornhole Playoff Bracket
ACO OFFICIAL RULES OF COMPETITION
Boards are placed 27 feet apart from front edge to front edge – adjustments can be made for individual leagues
Teammates line up directly across from one another at opposite ends of the court. This is considered a team’s “lane.” A coin toss will take place before each match and the winner gets to choose their lane. Loser of the coin toss gets to pitch 1st in the first frame. Each team must remain in this lane for the duration of the match.
Games are played to 21 or more points (no bust)
Woody – A cornhole bag that is pitched and remains on the board at the conclusion of the frame. Each Woody is worth 1 point
Cornhole – a cornhole bag that is pitched and passes through the cornhole at any time within the frame. Each cornhole is worth 3 points
A bag that comes to rest touching the ground AND the board does NOT count as a point
A bag that bounces from the ground first and ends up on the board does NOT count as a point and should be removed immediately after it is thrown
NO BAGS SHALL BE REMOVED prior to the end of the frame unless the bag is declared dead. If bags are removed prematurely and can be replaced in the original position the frame can continue. If this is not the case, then the offending team forfeits all 4 bags in the frame and the opposing team can finish the frame. Points are earned accordingly.
Cancellation Scoring – The points of one player cancel out similar points of the opposing player. Therefore, only one team can score during each frame.
Players must deliver the bag with an underhand release.
Feet must stay behind the throwing line (front edge of the board). The women’s pitching line will be marked 22’ from the opposite board. A foot fault (a bag that is pitched with a portion of the pitcher’s foot in front of the throwing line) can only be called by the opposing player. If a foot fault is called the following action is taken:
First offense – a warning is given, and the result of the throw remains unchanged
Second offense – the pitched bag is declared dead and removed from the board. Any bags affected by the “dead” bag in terms of position may be moved back to the original position or allowed to remain in the new position. This is up to the discretion of the team that called the foot foul.
Each additional offense – the pitched bag is declared dead and removed from the board. Any bags affected by the “dead” bag in terms of position may be moved back to the original position or allowed to remain in the new position. This is up to the discretion of the team that called the foot foul. The player committing the foot foul forfeits his/her turn for the remainder of the frame. The opponent still gets to pitch all four of his/her bags.
The team who scored in the preceding frame will pitch first in the next frame. If neither team scored, then the team who pitched first in the prior frame will retain first pitch.
The score should be called out prior to each frame. If there are discrepancies in scoring all four players should convene to determine the correct score.
Cornhole boards can be straightened but only in between frames. Once the first bag of the frame has been pitched the board cannot be moved for any reason.
